Principal's Letter
Greeting Midland Families,
Welcome to the 2021-22 school year!
I am pleased to introduce myself to you as the new, proud Principal of Midland Elementary School. I have a long history of connection with Midland as it was the first school that I taught at in Moreno Valley way back in the early 1990's. I was also privileged to serve as Midland's Assistant Principal from 2017-2020. And now I am back once again to serve the entire Midland Elementary community as Principal. Midland truly feels like home to me.
Our entire staff is so excited to welcome all of our Midland Thunderbirds back to campus. We can't wait to get back on the road to learning with our students. We want to let you know that we will be working hard this year to ensure that each and every one of our students has a safe, exciting, and enjoyable year this school year. We know that often the most challenging roads lead to beautiful destinations, and we are prepared to meet the challenges that this year might bring.
In light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic we will be implementing a number of safety measures including temperature checks each morning, face masks when indoors, emphasized hand washing and sanitation practices, and social distancing whenever possible. We will also start the year with parent meetings continuing to be held virtually.
We will also continue to focus on our Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program. Students will be learning about our SOAR motto during the months of August and September to help them readjust to in person learning. SOAR stands for Safe, Accountable, Organized, and Respectful which are all traits that lead to success in school and in life.
Finally, one of the greatest characteristics of the Midland community is the genuine care and compassion shared among staff, students, and parents. Thank you for allowing us to take care of your child during the day. They are truly amazing. We are looking forward to an incredible year!
Sincerely,
Joanne M. Katona
Midland Elementary Principal
