Dear Moreno Valley Unified School District Families:
As we continue to work together through this pandemic, we want to keep you informed about the latest developments regarding our plans to reopen schools.
Over the past few weeks, several new COVID-19 reports and information have made an impact on our normal day-to-day life. The California Department of Public Health and the Riverside County of Public Health have issued orders to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. As the healthcare industry is impacted and COVID-19 cases continue to rise at an alarming rate, the Board of Education discussed the current conditions of COVID-19 and the consideration of reopening schools.
As we have shared with you in the past, the safety of our students and staff is and will continue to be our highest priority. After weighing data, the Board of Education of the Moreno Valley Unified School District voted on Tuesday, December 15, to remain in full distance learning for the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year. The decision to extend distance learning was made due to COVID-19 cases reaching record levels, which are projected to continue into the new year. While two vaccines have been approved, their wide-spread distribution will not happen until the spring or summer next year, leaving staff and students vulnerable to the virus.
We recognize that many of you were concerned with returning to in-person learning and will be happy with this decision while many of you will be disappointed because you were ready to return to campus. We took those feelings into consideration but in the end prioritized the health and well-being of students and staff.
Throughout the year, we have added support services to help students academically as well as with social-emotional development. We encourage you to take advantage of these resources during this extended distance learning time.

Estimadas Familias del Distrito Escolar Unificado de Moreno Valley:
Mientras continuamos trabajando juntos a través de esta pandemia, nosotros queremos mantenerlo informado acerca de los últimos desarrollos con respecto a nuestros planes de la reapertura de las escuelas.
Durante las últimas semanas, varios reportes e información nueva de COVID-19 han tenido un impacto en nuestra vida normal de día a día. El Departamento de Salud Pública de California y la Salud Pública del Condado de Riverside han emitido órdenes para prevenir la propagación de COVID-19. A medida que la industria de la salud se ve afectada y los casos de COVID-19 siguen aumentando a un ritmo alarmante, la Mesa Directiva de Educación discutió las condiciones actuales de COVID-19 y la consideración de re-abrir las escuelas.
Como hemos compartido con usted en el pasado, la seguridad de nuestros estudiantes y el personal es y continuará siendo nuestra máxima prioridad. Después de analizar los datos, La Mesa Directiva de Educación del Distrito Escolar Unificado de Moreno Valley votó el martes 15 de diciembre para permanecer en el aprendizaje a distancia durante el resto del año escolar 2020-2021. La decisión de extender el aprendizaje a distancia fue tomada debido a los casos de COVID-19 que alcanzaron niveles récord, los cuales se proyectan en continuar el próximo año. Si bien se han aprobado dos vacunas, su amplia distribución no se producirá hasta la primavera o el verano del próximo año, dejando al personal y a los estudiantes vulnerable al virus.
Nosotros reconocemos que muchos de ustedes están preocupados en regresar al aprendizaje en persona y estarán contentos con esta decisión mientras muchos de ustedes estarán decepcionados porque estaban listos para regresar a las instalaciones. Nosotros tomamos esos sentimientos en consideración, pero al final le dimos prioridad a la salud y el bienestar de los estudiantes y el personal.
Durante el año, hemos agregado servicios de apoyo para ayudar a los estudiantes académicamente al igual que social y emocional. Nosotros lo alentamos a tomar ventaja de estos recursos durante este tiempo extendido de aprendizaje a distancia.
